With the passing of Brother Al Perry who was the founder and director of the Georgia Confederates Youth Camp there was some uncertainty how we were going to continue the Youth Camp. Brother Perry left the Youth Camp to the care of the Georgia Division, SCV but finding dedicated folks to take on the incredible amount of time and effort necessary to continue the operations of the Youth Camp was the challenge.
I’m pleased to announce that there will be a Youth Camp held this year on June 27 to July 1. Pastor John Weaver has agreed to take on the position of Youth Camp Director with support from Past 8th Brigade Commander Hershel Smith, current Brigade Commander Bo Slack and others in the 8th and 9th Brigades.
As you are aware a primary objective of our Charge is to educate. Having the opportunity and the resources to educate our youth is an opportunity that we must take advantage of, now more than ever.
The Georgia Confederates Youth Camp is that opportunity. I ask all our Camps in the Georgia Division to try to sponsor a Camper this year. With the $200 Division scholarship the cost to send a Camper for a week of Southern History, fun, and comradely is very affordable.
If you don’t have a Camper you can send and sponsor, support the Youth camp with a $150 donation to help families make the full tuition so they can send their child to Camp.
Campers from other States are welcome and camper parents don’t have to be SCV members.
To donate directly to GCYC, make checks payable to GCYC and mail to: Pastor John Weaver, P.O. Box 394, Fitzgerald, Ga, 31750
